Santa Snacks

Bless the Bean - snacks for Santa and "drawings for Santa and the reindeers", her idea.  Just loving Christmas this year in our house.  Hope you are enjoying the festive season. x

Husband wins pressure test

1. Left: My "surface of the moon" cake (husband's words)
2. The man in action
3. His "leather couch" (again, his words)

What better way to cheer up a tired & grumpy wife?

I think he missed his calling as a cake decorator!  Thoughts?

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE xx

Baby Cheeses

As Bean stuck the 'card only' stickers onto our cards today she asked me "wat dat baby's name?", referring to the Christmas stamps. "Baby Jesus" I replied...beginning to wonder what on earth I would tell her if she asked for more information.  What are my beliefs?  What are our beliefs as a family?  We aren't religious.  Even if we were...she's 2...how do you explain religion to a 2 year old?  I'm sure we don't need to have the full conversation for a while anyway, but goodness it got me thinking!  Luckily she just went on to tell me "dat baby loves cheeses" and that she "loves cheeses too".  Big laughs all round.  Phew!  Something to think about though...

The pics show what we've been up to this past week.  I'm so tired, but I'm loving every minute of this.  What have you been up to?

No Frosty this year

We aren't doing snowmen in this house this year because of some Christmas decorations at Woolworths that have absolutely frightened the life out of Bean.  Huge meltdowns in the supermarket lately, and there is nothing I can do or say to change her mind - in her words, "little dark eyes...not like the snowmans".

Now all snowmen are off limits unfortunately - tried to put some cute ones on our tree but she doesn't like them either.

Oh Christmas tree

We were on schedule this year with a December 1st tree-decorating ceremony...I'm a little behind with the photo uploads and blogging though, busy busy. I think she might need some tinsel or a garland of some description perhaps...thoughts?  Although once some presents start arriving underneath...might be enough?  Hmmm....fun decisions!  Note there are no snowmen in our house.  I'll be back to explain why later this week.

Making and baking and loving Christmas

I've been busy making decorations this year because we lashed out and bought a HUGE tree!  I'm going to add to the handmade collection each year.  Pop over to The Magic Onions - such a beautiful, positive, creative & inspiring space - where I borrowed the idea for the felt circle tree.

As I type, the drunk fruit you see above (which mind you, has been drinking rum for a week...) is cooking in the oven.  It is the first of three Christmas cakes I'm baking this year and oh my, it smells AMAZING! Hope everyone is feeling merry. x

Would like to remember this

Beany things I don't want to forget...

- when we sat at the piano and you asked me to play Twinkle Twinkle over and over, and then you asked me to sing too.  You joined in, with the sweetest little voice and you made the diamond shape with your hands...like a diamond in the sky.

- when I started singing along to Lior in the kitchen as I cleaned up and you were playing in the loungeroom.  The second I began, you came running in, stopped, stared at me and then started to bend at the knees, bopping along.

- watching as you learn to really mimic the instructors at Tiny Tots during the songs with actions, but then break into your own freestyle, twisting and turning and jumping and shaking your maracas (they're always green, you love green and won't allow them to hand you any other colour).

- watching you meticulously paste and sprinkle glitter onto your artwork.

- your amazing patience today as you "helped" me cut up the fruit for the Christmas cakes - you handed me 300g of raisins, one by one, watching as I cut each one in half.

I am super excited about your baby brother or sister joining us in February and us evolving into a new family shape.  I can't help but feel a little sad though.  Of course we will still have these moments darling Bean, but I feel a little bit sad that a chapter will be over for us and you will have to share.

You are 2 years and 4 months old.  You are growing up so fast it seems.  Every week, you seem much older.  I love you so much precious Bean.

Hooray for Pic Monkey!  I had been wondering for ages how everyone was coming up with these funky collages....thanks heaps for sharing Kell (visit her gorgeous blog here)!

Here's my first quick go...I'm absolutely addicted!

Too much Peppa Pig perhaps?

Bean: "Who the Bubba's Dadda?"
Me: ...amazed that at 2, she feels the need to ask..."Your Dadda is the Bubba's Dadda too.  We're a family."
Bean: "We a family of pigs!"

Hmmm....

Allllllll-riiiiiiight

Children seldom misquote.  In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.
- Author Unknown

We haven't had any naughty words repeated by the Bean...yet.  Only a matter of time, I hear you say.  We have made such a big effort to stop swearing ourselves, but I suppose kidlets can hear naughty words elsewhere too can't they?

This little quote did urge me to share something funny Bean has been doing lately. When she starts really whinging for something, after a couple of sooks, she looks up at me with her head on the side and says "aaaallll-riiiiight".  Cheeky monkey!  Such an eye-opener, I had no idea I had been giving in.

Cock-a-doodle-doo

When Bean wakes in the morning these days, she sings and chats to herself for about half an hour, then loudly shouts 'cock-a-doodle-doo' when she wants to get lifted out of her cot.  Warm & fuzzy mornings around here.  Have a lovely week.

Funny, but seriously, help?

Recently I was cutting up carrots in the kitchen.  Bean and I were talking about cutting up these carrots and how we were about to cut up some zucchinis.  I'm not sure how, but the subject changed to the 'Bubba in Mummy's tummy'.  Wires were crossed.  Things became confused.  Bean announced with excitement "Cut the Bubba up!".  Whatever my reaction was at the time (to be honest, I can't remember if I laughed or looked utterly shocked), but whatever I did has caused this little Bean to blurt this out WAY too often for my liking, and then look to me for a reaction.  For example: we are in a cafe and there is a toddler nearby with a doll.  Bean exclaims, grinning "Cut the Bubba up!" and looks to me for a reaction.  The only reaction I notice in this disturbing scenario is the look of shear terror on the little girl with the doll's face, as she slinks towards her mother with her baby tucked firmly under her arm.  I don't think her mother heard it...

I've tried ignoring it.  I've tried reasoning, trying to explain we cuddle Bubbas and tickle them.   Any suggestions?

Gorillas at the beach

Walking in our neighbourhood today was lovely...

Bean asked "What type of birdy dat is?" every single time we saw one, which was fantastic because we saw rainbow lorikeets, magpies, seagulls and pelicans today.  She thought a cat was a gorilla...hmmm...bizarre.  It was so hard not to laugh at her once I saw her eyes and how she truly believed it WAS a gorilla!  Happy Sunday to you!

Fresh new look for Spring

I've wanted crisp and white for a while now - here we go.  I'm looking forward to warmer Spring days and a renewed enthusiasm for capturing pretties with my dusty, neglected camera. Bean's Daddy thinks the fungus isn't pretty at all.  Does it remind you of a cracked nipple too?  Haha!  I find it a bit creepy but I still love the detail in it.  Hope your week has been a good one.

Our Bean is 2

During my hibernation, Bean turned 2!  Happy Birthday little big girl!  We had ladybug & frog cakes and a lovely afternoon outside with friends.
